So what's to love about Facebook?
Many people love Facebook for its great social networking experience, for the friends, games, groups, pages and more....
In many ways it is a great site, for example if you wanted to connect to an old school friend, you would see if they had facebook and reconnect with them.
Many youngsters use Facebook as a place to post things good or bad in their life and their friends comment with good/bad comments on this. The like button has become very popular with many youngsters and even adults, especially for groups/pages. Some people make pages just to see how many likes they can get, for example I Knew Pendulum, Before Watercolour! is a group on Facebook to see how many people did know and how fast it would spread on Facebook. Which gives an element of fun to people using Facebook.
Also Facebook games like FarmVille and Mafia Wars have become very popular, most are just point and click games where you can level up and buy new things etc, but you can invite your friends to your game and bring a more community type game. This makes it a good way to build a better community on Facebook.
Ok so thats all great, but there has been a lot of news about Facebook 'Security threats'
Many youngsters nowadays are having profile pictures and picture albums that some would see to be obscene, they are showing themselves in 'obscene' clothing and most are not aware of the security threats and some of the bad people that are on Facebook.
From Yahoo's latest news: "Security concerns over Facebook have been raised yet again after a security consultant collected the names and profile URL's for 171 million Facebook accounts from publicly available information."
They then went on to say that this person uploaded these files as a torrent, which anyone with an internet connection could freely download. It is shocking to know that everyone's information on Facebook is not safe. A malicious hacker could use this information to find out all of your private information, and even help them to hack into your computer, bank account or other private account.
Do Facebook know about this?
Yes Facebook know about this and are really tightening down the security, and giving you the choice if you want to show your picture, address, email etc to people who arent your friends. The latest is that they are going to warn you on your profile page about this and really tighten down security.
Facebook does now have a custom privacy setting, but they don't really advertise or tell people to use it for their own safety.
So many people don't even know about this feature and risk having their information exposed to possible hackers and other criminals.
